Data Methodology

Where is the data coming from?

Private markets dataset is multi-sourced and aggregated from harvesting public information (company filings, press releases, regulatory disclosures), third-party APIs, and proprietary investment banking research.

Coverage starts in 2014 and spans 150,000+ M&A deals and 350,000+ funding rounds globally, across all sectors, including both disclosed and undisclosed transactions.

How is the data manipulated?

Valuation / enterprise value: Where the data permits, we apply our own logic to arrive at EV rather than taking headline numbers at face value. For a large M&A deal with available information on the target's net debt, we adjust the reported valuation to reflect an accurate enterprise value. In all other cases the reported valuation is used as the numerator.

Revenue and EBITDA: We source LTM revenue and LTM EBITDA from target filings, press releases, and other verified sources. Where LTM data is unavailable we take the next best-fit period (run-rate or calendar year), provided it makes sense in a given case - e.g. for a deal that closed in November 2025 we might use full-year 2025 revenue as the benchmark.

Valuation multiples: EV/Revenue and EV/EBITDA are derived from the two above, and are only populated where both sides of the ratio are available and sensible.

Verification: Every record goes through a verification process. A red-flagging system spot-checks suspicious-looking data points, values are compared against other market sources, and the deal is sense-checked by our team. Unrealistic or unverifiable data points are removed. The dataset is updated biweekly and monitored continuously.

Any raw figures are harmonised to USD for comparison purposes.

Aggregates. Endpoints that return computed statistics use medians (not means), trim outliers using an IQR rule, and suppress median/quartile values for buckets below a minimum sample size. The exact constants applied are returned in meta.methodology with every aggregation - see Aggregate Transactions.

What data do I get via API?

For companies - sector classification, HQ and founding details, ownership, deal activity, valuation, valuation multiples

For transactions - M&A deals and funding rounds, with deal terms and multiples

For aggregated valuation benchmarks (median multiples by month, quarter, or year for any cohort)

For investor profiles - deal activity, portfolio companies, and co-investors
